Copenhagens Famous Nyhavn Street

Copenhagens Famous Nyhavn Street

If you ever google “Copenhagen”, the first image you usually see is a beautiful picture of a canal with a series of sailboats moored along the side and a row of brightly colored houses that looks like they were built in the 1600’s.

That picture you see on Google is the famous Nyhavn (New Haven) street, and this section of Copenhagen is one of the most impressive tourist destinations in the city. The line of immaculately detailed sail-powered ships sets the tone for what you should expect alongside the shops underneath the colorful buildings.

These shops and restaurants have all kinds of wonderful local foods that give you a true Scandinavian dining experience. Whether you choose to sit indoors and drink in the fishing and merchant-sailing themed ambiance, or sit outdoors under the heat lamps and warm blankets to keep yourself at a comfortable temperature while enjoying the views of the ships and waterways to make you feel as if you’re back in time by 400 years.

Nyhavn Street is a must see location that every tourist of Copenhagen should experience at least once before going back home. And if you’re visiting the area during the Christmas market season, as long as you’re above Denmarks legal drinking age of 16, I highly recommend you try the Christmas Glogg (hot wine with berries and cinnamon bits). This drink brought a warm vibrancy into both my taste buds and my heart.
