Sustainability, Urban Planning, and Collaboration

Sustainability, Urban Planning, and Collaboration

During our stay in Copenhagen, we visited the Technical and Environmental Administration of the City of Copenhagen!

We had an in-depth introduction to the city, focusing on its sustainable urban planning outlined in their 2025 Climate Plan, which we read through before our trip here. I was especially surprised by the condition Copenhagen was in in the past. Our tour guide, Brad, told us that Copenhagen was not clean or as beautiful as it is now, but the photos and presentation detailing its development showed me how far the city has come in progress.

We also visited BLOXHUB - the Nordic Hub for Sustainable Urbanization. We were welcomed by Martine Kildeby, Head of Strategic Partnerships, who talked to us about BLOXHUB’s mission-driven approach, importance of cross-sector collaboration and leadership, and their current projects in the US. The hub is a community of companies and organizations with competencies and experiences within urban development that facilitate partnerships abroad.

The two presentations are my favorite memory from my study abroad experience! I explored a Danish urban planning and architecture exhibit that day to summarize what I learned about the city and its innovations. I got to read more about the country’s history, look at architectural models, and expand my newfound interest in sustainability economics!
