Cruising the streets of Copenhagen on a bicycle

Cruising the streets of Copenhagen on a bicycle

If you’re like me and have never ridden a bike in an urban environment before, Copenhagen can be quite a challenging, but thrilling, experience!

Their roads are often split between pedestrian sidewalks, bike lanes, and roadways for vehicle traffic. This gives you plenty of space to not have to worry about accidentally hitting pedestrians or get hit by cars. What you will need to watch out for, however, is other cyclists! The locals have been riding bikes since  their childhood, as cycling is a major part of danish culture, so they know far more about biking than the average American. Unless you’re one of the outliers in America that rides bikes far more often, you will most likely have a difficult time adjusting to traveling throughout Copenhagen on this alternative mode of transportation.

But don’t worry! After about an hour of adjustment and understanding the unwritten rules of the road, you’ll become just as an experienced Copenhagen cyclist. All it takes is a little time, patience, and good quality bike.

You can rent good quality bikes in this local rental shop called Rosenberg Cykler in Rosenborggade 3, 1130 København, Denmark. This shop will give you a great daily rental rate (and a helmet for safety!) to try your hand in something that is rarely seen in the US.

If you choose to visit the architecturally beautiful bridges like Inderhavnsbroen, Cirkelbroen, or Cykelslangen, take some time to save them to your photo album and enjoy taking a few laps back and forth on one of Copenhagens most unique solutions to providing a path for their bikers to travel throughout the city.

Once you’re satisfied with the days journey, you can head back to Rosenberg Cykle, turn in your rental bike, and take a short stroll down to any of the nearby cafes like Cafe Fiol, Lagkagehuset, or Det Vide Hus to relax and recharge on another lovely day in Copenhagen.
